A Message From Mayor Kelly Honig

A Message From Kelly Honig – Mayor Of Westlake Village

June 19, 2020

Hello Westlake Village Neighbors and Friends!

It is already the middle of June and the fourth month of life with the coronavirus pandemic.  Much has happened over the last few weeks, so I wanted to bring you up to date.

  • Our city continues to have an extremely low coronavirus infection rate, with the latest number of cases in Westlake Village at 7. Your adherence to the LA County Health orders is the reason that we have been able to keep infection rates so low in our area. Everyone’s cooperation is noticed and appreciated.
  • Things are slowly opening in our city.  LA County has aligned with the State’s Pandemic Resilience Roadmap and certain businesses have been able to open, including restaurants, hair salons, gyms, and pools.  Additional personal care establishments are permitted to open beginning today, also following health and safety protocols. This includes nail salons, tanning salons, esthetician, skin care, and cosmetology services; electrology, body art professionals, tattoo parlors, and piercing shops; and massage therapy (in non-healthcare settings), provided that the number of persons admitted into these establishments is limited to 50% of the total maximum occupancy among other conditions.
  • Yesterday, Governor Newsom issued a state-wide order requiring that everyone wear face coverings in all public places, or in any place where physical distancing is not possible.  We are currently in Stage 3 of Governor’s Newsom’s four stage plan for re-opening.
  • The City is working with our restaurant owners to allow them to expand outdoor dining into adjacent parking places so they can accommodate more patrons while maintaining appropriate distance between diners.  So, you might enjoy your next restaurant meal in a parking lot; perfect for outdoor dining!
  • The Greater Valley Conejo Chamber of Commerce has begun their Business Grant Assistance Program, where local businesses with 25 employees or less can apply for a grant of up to $2,500.00.  The City of Westlake Village contributed $50,000.00 toward this grant program to assist those businesses in our city with their financial needs during this crisis.
  • City Hall has now reopened in a limited capacity with most of the staff returning  to work in person with physical distancing, masks, and safety protocols in place and when the public enters the front lobby.  Please keep in mind that the public is still being advised to conduct City business remotely with in person visits being scheduled by appointment only. Most meetings are still being held virtually, but the City Council will have its first in -person council meeting on June 24th in the Council Chambers.  All distancing and other safety protocols will be in place.  We will be re-opening our Dog Park on July 1st, with masks and social distancing requirements.  We are also re-opening the public bathrooms in our parks.  Please look for information about this on our website
  • This month we celebrated college and high school graduations and middle school and elementary school culminations in new and unique ways.  Our City Council participated in some fun, colorful drive-by ceremonies honoring our students.  We know these important life moments were not celebrated in the traditional way, but celebrated they were nonetheless!  Our students rose to the occasion and demonstrated perseverance, positivity, and creativity, and are destined for great things in their futures!
  • Remember to #SHOPCONEJO when you are able.  Our businesses are owned by our friends and neighbors and they need our support now more than ever. Many have given generously to our local non-profits and fundraisers over the years, and now is the time to give back to them by patronizing their stores as they reopen.
  • Even though some things are returning to the new “normal,” we must still be cautious.  The coronavirus is still out there, and we must continue to be careful to prevent the spread of this disease.  Please continue to stay home whenever you can, wear your masks, stay six feet apart and wash your hands.  I have been having fun collecting different patterned masks and displaying my mask fashions on social media.
  • Our emergency website at is loaded with information and resources. Please check it out for the most up to date information.

Thank you again for being good neighbors, for your continued adherence to County health orders, and for your support of Westlake Village.  I am honored and proud to serve as your Mayor!
