Landscape and Streetscape Improvements

As part of a long-range master plan, 2008 will see the City continue to reinvest in its infrastructure, particularly in the area of landscaping and streetscapes described below:

Re-landscaping of Agoura Road medians:

Project involves the reconstruction of center medians on Agoura Road with new irrigation, landscaping and drainage.

New landscaping adjacent to Lindero Canyon Road advance street name signs:

Project involves new landscaping, along with updated irrigation, next to all of the advance street name signs on Lindero Canyon Road.

Ridgeford parkway improvements:

Project targets installation of new landscaping along Ridgeford Drive which, when completed, will offer a transition between the rural open space immediately to the west and the residential neighborhood along the side and top of Ridgeford Drive.

City/Neighborhood Beautification Program:

Provides funding in collaborative projects with local homeowner’s associations through City-issued grants to encourage neighborhood beautification projects visible from the public right-of-way.

New Sports Park

Representng a collaborative effort involving the Triunfo YMCA and the Canyon Oaks Homeowner’s Association, this approved project is currently in the design stage and will be built in two phases with the development of a graded level pad to come first, followed by the construction of above-ground improvements such as backstops, play fields, restrooms, etc. on eight acres.  It is expected that grading of the pad, with construction of utilities and driveway, will commence in late 2008 and be completed approximately twelve to fifteen months later.  Construction of the above-ground improvements for the second phase will follow, although it has currently not been determined when that will occur as the City will be seeking additional funding opportunities through grants and fund-raising activities to offset overall project costs.

Lindero Canyon Road Corridor Improvements o Canyon Road Corridor Improvements

Three phases of work remain to be built as part of this project, including: (Phase 1) widening for a second northbound on-ramp lane next to the new Four Seasons Hotel and extension of the auxiliary lane adjacent to the freeway; (Phase 2) realignment of the travel lanes on the overpass and addition of an additional southbound lane; and (Phase 3) improvements at the Lindero-Agoura Road intersection resulting in a second westbound right turn lane and a second eastbound left turn lane.  It is expected that construction of these phases will occur over a three-year period beginning in the spring, 2008.

Annual Street Maintenance Work

As part of the City’s on-going road resurfacing program, the following streets are targeted for either an overlay or slurry seal coat this coming spring or early summer:

Overlay - Barrett Drive, Bigstone Place, Fastwater Court, Memory Lane Pacifica Court, Peachwood Place, Sandy Creek Drive, and Shell Creek Place

Slurry Seal - Lindero Canyon Road (Agoura Road to Westlake Cove), Russell Ranch Road (northerly half), Lakeshore neighborhood, Westlake Trails neighborhood, Southridge Trails neighborhood, Parkwood Estates neighborhood, Westlake Terrace neighborhood, Upper Terrace Townhomes neighborhood, and Three Springs neighborhood

Park Improvement Program

This coming spring and early summer will see the City undertake a number of exciting upgrades to the City’s parks as part of a second-year schedule of an overall three-year effort.  These upgrades will improve the overall usability, functionality, and esthetics of the City’s park system.

Canyon Oaks Park: A complete renovation is planned for this park including two new play areas serving tots and youth, a half-court basketball facility, fitness/walking trail, enhanced landscaping, park benches, picnic tables, trash receptacles, and a new drinking fountain.

Three Springs Park: Following last year’s addition of a new children’s play area, improvements planned in 2008 include the installation of new park benches.

Russell Ranch Park: New improvements will include replacement of an existing drinking fountain and the complete renovation of the sports fields (i.e., new drainage and irrigation system along with replacement turf).

Berniece Bennett Park: Improvements slated to be installed this year entail enhanced landscaping, additional picnic tables and new trash receptacles.
